RUBY LOU
July 3 • 7pm
The overall mellow vibe and spacey americana sound combine to make Ruby Lou the perfect choice for a midweek summer hang. If you’re a fan of Gram Parsons, and particularly the Flying Burrito Brothers, Ruby Lou might be right up your alley. What sets them apart from other alt-country acts are lyrics that—while delivered with unassuming ease—offer surprisingly dark turns of phrase. And that’s what’s most compelling to us about the singles they’ve put out to date: how the musical inheritance is proudly on display, but the work resonates with our current cultural moment instead of feeling like it’s an homage to bygone eras or born-in-the-wrong-era acts.
The subtlety with which they pull off this combination of classic and contemporary makes it so easy to fall in love with the music right away. It certainly was for us, and we can’t wait to see how these songs come to life when performed in the taproom.
